"Do not save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving."
- Warren Buffett

Tere hommikust, habari ya asubuhi!

(Estonian – because Estonia is one of the countries with the greatest financial discipline in Europe. Swahili – because in Africa, saving is often not a choice, but a necessity.)

Is it possible to have over 150 billion dollars and still eat breakfast in a cheap restaurant for a few bucks? Sounds impossible? Yet, this is the reality of Warren Buffett – one of the richest people in the world, who has lived in the same house for decades, eats the same cheap breakfasts, and doesn’t buy himself private islands.

Why? Because Buffett understands something that most people will never grasp. Money is a tool. Either you control it, or it controls you.

And this brings us to the essence – the psychology of successful people, where three things matter more than money itself. Saving, because it builds real wealth. Self-discipline, because without it, you will burn through any fortune. Freedom, because it is the state where you can do what you want, not what you must.

1. Saving – poverty starts with bad decisions, not a low salary

You don’t need millions to start living like a billionaire. It’s not about buying private jets, but about thinking in terms of value, not price.

Buffett has always said one thing: if you buy things you don’t need, soon you will have to sell things you do need.

Spend on things that increase in value: investments, education, health. Don’t burn money on things that just look expensive but bring you nothing.

A new phone every year, leasing a car that you can barely afford to maintain – these are not the decisions of successful people. These are decisions that make you work for the bank, not for yourself.

2. Self-discipline – financial freedom starts with small choices

Every million begins with the first dollar, and every fortune begins with self-discipline.

It’s not about depriving yourself of everything and living like a monk. It’s about knowing when to say "no" when it matters.

You don’t need another gadget that will be worth half its price in six months. You don’t have to eat at the most expensive restaurant if a cheaper option gives you just as much joy. You don’t need to buy a bigger house if the one you have is already enough.

Buffett knows that every dollar you wisely keep today can work for you tomorrow. Because wealth is not about how much you earn, but how much you can retain.

3. Freedom – the greatest luxury you can buy

And now the most important part. Because, after all, it’s not about being stingy and counting every penny for the rest of your life.

It’s about having a choice.

If you have money and know how to spend it wisely, you can work because you want to – not because you have to.
You can live where you like – not where a mortgage forces you to.
You can do things that truly matter to you – not chase after others to prove who has the bigger house or better watch.

And this is the moment where Buffett understands more than 99 percent of people. Because he has already won his game.

He doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. He doesn’t need golden door handles. Because true wealth is not the number of zeros in your bank account, but the life where you decide.

Be grateful for what you have before you start wanting more

The greatest secret of successful people? Gratitude.

You have a roof over your head? You are in a better position than millions of people.
You have health? You can work, grow, invest.
You have control over your decisions? That is worth more than a luxury car.

I remember this. I’m about to go for a bike ride, to look at the mountains and the lake and thank life for everything that has happened to me so far. For the colors of my life and for today – a beautiful, brand new day. This is not just talk – this is real gratitude. Radiant and beyond-human.

But back to the point… Remember:

It’s not money that brings happiness, but the peace that comes with it.

Motto for today:

Save so you have a choice. Invest so you have a future. Don’t spend to impress those who will forget you.

So… what are you doing today for your freedom?
