"The avocado is a food without rival among the fruits, the veritable fruit of paradise." – David Fairchild*
(*He introduced avocados to the United States.)
Oh, I can feel it—today is the day.
Mid-February. Monday. A day of beautiful challenges, but above all, a day of open eyes.
It’s fascinating how most of us—humans—wake up, open our eyes, and go through the entire day blinking, constantly looking at the world around us.
But are we really seeing?
Do we truly perceive everything? Or, perhaps a better question would be: Do we truly notice everything?
A simple life example to explain:
We all go shopping almost daily (unless you’re a nomadic Bedouin with a six-month supply 😊).
Two common shopping scenarios:
"I’m first!"
You’re at the checkout, and you see someone trying to cut ahead, skipping a few people in line.
Your first reaction? Outrage: "How can someone be so rude?!"
But then, you notice. It’s a young woman holding a child in her arms—crying, perhaps from hunger or exhaustion.
Maybe she’s just desperately trying to buy some food and get home as quickly as possible?
If you step back and say: "Go ahead, please, I have time," you’ll see relief and gratitude in her eyes.
She might even turn back and say: "Thank you, you just saved my day!"
And suddenly, instead of frustration, you feel warmth in your heart.
"The Rude Cashier"
You approach the register, and the cashier greets you with a cold, sharp tone: "Card or cash?"
You think: "Great, another rude person with no manners!"
But what if, instead, you take a moment to really look at him?
Maybe he has dark circles under his eyes from staying up all night caring for a sick child.
Maybe the last customer just yelled at him.
Instead of mirroring his coldness, you could say: "Rough day? I hope things get better soon."
Sometimes, a single kind word can turn someone’s entire day around.
Maybe then, the cashier will smile back and say: "Thank you, that really means a lot."
Believe it: Your perspective shapes reality
By choosing to see the good in people instead of just their flaws, you make the world a better place—for them and for yourself.
When you recognize their struggles, their efforts, and their good intentions, instead of getting annoyed, you feel compassion and understanding.
And who knows? Maybe because of your kindness, someone else will look at you with more warmth today.
You have no idea how much GOOD surrounds you.
Open your eyes and start noticing it today!
I apologize for the lengthy introduction, but I had to. Now I’ll stop. No more morning reflections. It’s time to dive into the crème de la crème and turn our attention to today’s hero:
(No, this isn’t a ranking—it’s just one of my favorites, and it happens to start with A).
Is it a superfood? Absolutely!
Avocado – Nature’s Green Treasure, a Superfood for Your Health
In the world of nutrition, some foods stand out for their exceptional nutritional value and health benefits. They are commonly called superfoods. And honestly, I think that’s a pretty cool name. They’re super, and they’re food—makes sense, right? 😊
One of these remarkable foods is avocado—a fruit that has long been recognized as a superfood. Thanks to its unique nutritional composition and versatile health benefits, avocado has become a staple of a healthy diet.
A Powerhouse of Nutrients
Avocado is a true vitamin bomb. It is rich in B vitamins (especially B5, B6, and folic acid), which support metabolism and the nervous system. It is also an excellent source of vitamin K, essential for proper blood clotting, and natural vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from oxidative stress.
Let’s pause here for a second—what is oxidative stress?
In short, it’s a condition in which the body has an excess of free radicals, leading to cell damage, accelerated aging, and the development of various diseases (including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, atherosclerosis, diabetes, and cancer).
On top of that, avocado provides vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system, and potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure.
So don’t wait—eat that avocado!
Healthy Fats for the Heart and Brain
One of the most important components of avocado is healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fatty acids.
Research shows that a diet rich in these fats lowers bad LDL cholesterol while raising good HDL cholesterol. This means avocado supports heart health and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
But that’s not all—healthy fats also play a crucial role in brain function, enhancing concentration and memory.
Remember that! 😊
Fiber for Healthy Digestion
Avocado is also an excellent source of dietary fiber, which supports digestive health and prevents constipation.
An important factor—so that our royal throne sessions don’t last too long! 😊
Fiber also helps keep you feeling full for longer, making avocado a perfect addition to weight-loss diets—and I can vouch for that!
My today’s record: 99.3 kg (just 2.3 kg to go until my goal!).
Versatility in the Kitchen
As a chef, I’ll say this:
You can add avocado to almost anything!
It can be eaten raw, added to salads, smoothies, spreads, or sauces.
One of the most popular dishes is guacamole (never buy store-bought!).
Guacamole Homemade recipe:
But don’t stop there—experiment!
Try using avocado as a butter substitute on toast or even in healthy desserts—I recently discovered that avocado has a subtle, pleasant sweetness—give it a try!
Why I Recommend Avocado as a Superfood
Because it’s 100% real health.
It should be part of every healthy diet (although an "unhealthy diet" sounds like an amusing paradox).
Imagine two fit women at the gym:
"So, what are you eating these days?"
"Oh, I found this amazing unhealthy diet—processed fish sticks, cola, 300g of chips twice a day, followed by milk chocolate and an energy drink. But don’t worry—I make up for it with avocado!"
"Highly recommend—super unhealthy! My liver is swelling, and my cells are coated in sugar. DELICIOUS!" 😊
Back to the Point…
Avocado is packed with vitamins, healthy fats, and fiber.
It supports the heart, brain, and gut.
No matter if you’re watching your weight, caring for your skin, or simply striving for better health, avocado is a choice worth making. And if you don’t finish the whole thing—save half for tomorrow! Maybe for a spread with olive oil—also known as guacamole.
